Road District Permit Information

           Access /  Culvert permit

• For anyone who had purchased a lot in one of our subdivisions or a parcel of land in Plato Township you will need to apply for an access permit. This allows you to gain access to your property from the highway.
• If your property is located on a state highway you will need to get in contact with IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation).
• If your property is located on a Kane County road, you will need to contact KDOT (Kane Department of Transportation). The KDOT office number is 630-584-1170.  
• If your property is on a Township road  you can call the Plato Township Highway Department at 847-464-5121. We will set up a time for you to come to our office and fill out a form. It usually takes less than 15 minutes. At that time you would be required to bring in a check payable to Plato Township Highway Department in the sum of $750.00.
• After this process is completed, you can then go to Kane County and show them that you have gained your access permit. We can help you determine which highway department you need by contacting our office at 847-464-5121. If no one is available at that time please leave your name and number.

          Oversize / Overweight permits

• Overweight Permits are required when moving and/or operating equipment upon Township roadways that exceed the maximum size or weight specified in the Illinois compiled Statutes. These permits are obtained thru Kane County Division of Transportation by calling their permit department 630-584-1171.

          Right of Way Utilities / Dig permit

• R.O.W. permits for utilities or any other type of construction work in the Township right of way must be obtained by contacting the Highway Department.
• Repairs or improvements to previously installed utilities will need to permit by contacting the Highway Department.
• The permit fee is $150.00 in the form of a check made out to the Plato Township Road District.
• Permitting will usually be processed the same day when possible.
